It’s not rocket science

There is a reason why marketing has it’s own qualifications and there are professionals (like me) who make a career out of it. It can be very complicated and there is definitely a skill to it. But there are simple things you can do in your own marketing that’ll make a big difference, pretty quickly.

One of those things is CONSISTENCY!

Time and again I see businesses being inconsistent with their marketing activities. It’s such an easy mistake to make but it’s also really easy to fix, so here are my three tips for being more consistent in your marketing activity.

TIP ONE - DEFINE YOUR BRAND IDENTITY

Make sure you look and sound the same, regardless of what channel you’re using. This doesn’t mean you have to use exactly the same content and words across social media, email, your website and so on. But there should definitely be styling that’s applied across all platforms as well as a consistent tone of voice.

TIP TWO - MAKE A PLAN

Setting aside a few hours each month to plan out your marketing activity in one go, rather than figuring it out on the go will save you so much time and stress. Running a business is hard, so spending time each week thinking about what to post or email to your audience isn’t a valuable use of your time. Plus the messaging will be sporadic and potentially incoherent, which doesn’t build trust with your audience.

TIP THREE - LOOK AT YOUR RESULTS

When you’ve done all this wonderful activity you need to actually look at the results. This will help you to understand what times and days work better for you to post on social media, what content gets the best results, what media people like and even what hashtags produce the greatest reach. There’s a lot to learn from all the data you’ll have but you need to make time to review it. Once you do it’ll tell you what your audience does and doesn’t like, so you can learn and evolve.

If you do all of these things CONSISTENTLY then you’ll see a big difference in your marketing activities.
